Food Cardiff Community Meeting at Hangar Community HubEvents

Cardiff Food Network Community Meeting Hosted by Us

Cardiff Food Network Community Meeting Hosted by Us on 12th May.

We have a great time hosting members of the Cardiff Food Network for a Spring meeting and a networking lunch.  It was great to host this event, and meet other members providing similar services around the City of Cardiff.  We provided a tasty array of healthy food, as after all, Food Cardiffs 5 Food Goals include a Healthy Cardiff.

The event was led by Food Cardiff coordinator, Pearl Costello and attended by members including Fareshare Cymru, Clayton Hotel, other food Pantries around the area and food Co-operatives.

Lois Scoops Learner of the Year at the Apprenticeship AwardsEvents

Lois Scoops Learner of the Year at the Apprenticeship Awards

Lois Scoops Learner of the Year at the Apprenticeship Awards and Hangar HPC was nominated for Employer of the Year.

Following a lovely evening out at the Apprenticeship Awards at Cardiff Marriott hotel, we were thrilled that our young Apprentice Lois won the Learner of the Year awards.

At Hangar we’re really passionate about helping young people and giving them all the chances we can.  Lois came to us just after we were allowed to reopen following the Pandemic lockdown – on a Kickstart program.  She has thrived and is now training to become a Personal Trainer.

We support our youngsters with developing their business including a logo, help with website, social media and support them through their qualifications. We allow them to complete coursework whilst on a paid shift, and do our best to provide employment once they qualify.

Cole for example, came to us on work experience via his University. We kept him on and paid for his PT qualifications, created his website and provided his business cards. And he has regular coaching work with us as well as training his own clients.  His career is thriving.

Sometimes we can fund their qualifications depending on the circumstances.  We provide a structured Apprenticeship work-experience program and require several areas of work in addition to that formally required by their course.

We’re delighted that we’ve now developed over 10 learners into their Personal Training careers.  Most of them are still with us full-time.

Fight For Peace Regional Development DayEvents

Fight for Peace Development Day

Fight for Peace Development Day

So in mid-winter, 4th December the members of the Fight For Peace Alliance gyms around the country got together for development days, for sharing ideas and strategies post-pandemic.

Hangar Human Performance Centre, our home, was honoured to be selected as the regional host for Wales.

Also the Fight For Peace Chief Executive Jenny Oklikah joined us for the day, a great honour to host her.

We had a great day, and during the morning sessions, ran several sessions around Youth Mental Health, Disability Boxing Inclusion and how we as organisations, can work with Youth Offending Services.

We then shared a meal together, and had time for networking and bonding before an afternoon of training on the mats.

Here’s a little bit more about the Fight For Peace Alliance and what we do.  It was great to be part of filming this film!
